Driving North to Portage or East to Seward can get you right up close and personal with a sightseeing excursion at one of Alaska’s many glaciers.
Portage is about 100 miles from our lodge by car, or 50 miles from Anchorage. Upon arriving at Portage Lake you can ride a tour boat right up to the face of the glacier on your Alaska sightseeing adventure, the price is $39.00 per person; children $19.00. Be sure to spend time at the very informative Visitors Center.
Seward, a picturesque fishing town at the head of Resurrection Bay and home to Exit glacier, is about 85 miles east of us for another Alaska sightseeing option. A leisurely hike of 1/2 mile puts you at the very face of this remnant of the last ice age. There are also boat tours to see wildlife and glaciers around the bay. Throughout the summer there are many different Alaska sightseeing specials, such as a wonderful tour around the bay on a 115 foot boat with food and beverage service. On your Alaska adventure tour you may see whales, sea otters, sea lions, mountain goats, glaciers, sharks, dolphin and many different species of sea birds. Local flightseeing excursions out of Soldotna, Alaska can also offer some breathtaking views of the glaciers and other beautiful scenery that surrounds us.
Homer, Alaska
Homer is a wonderful place to spend a day for sightseeing in Alaska, with its many gift shops, cafes, and rapidly growing artistic community. This drive takes you along many miles of Kenai Peninsula coastline, with spectacular views of the active volcanoes, Mt. Spurr, Mt. Redoubt, Mt. Illiamna and Mt. Augustine across Cook Inlet.
The Kenai area has beautiful, sandy beaches that are wonderful places to walk, fly a kite or just take in the awe-inspiring beauty of the bay.
Clam Digging
If you choose to head south for your Alaska sightseeing excursion, Ninilchick, an Old Russian fishing village, is home to some of the best Razor Clam digging in the world; you’ll need minus tides to dig clams. This little village is well worth visiting, with its 19th century hand hewn log buildings and Russian Orthodox Church on the bluff overlooking Cook Inlet. Another 40 miles South, nd you’ll pass through Anchor Point, which boasts the Western most stretch of highway in the North America. Finally, you will wind up in Homer, the “End of the Road”.
The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, which is home to a variety of wildlife and fishing opportunities for Alaska sightseeing excursions, encompasses 1.3 million acres and over 100 miles of canoe trails, with 70 pristine lakes. Fully guided and outfitted Alaska excursions, with top-of-the-line equipment and skilled and knowledgeable guides, is a wilderness experience that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Day trips and overnight adventure tours are offered.
Besides fishing in Kenai, there are also many trails to be explored throughout the region, where you can expect to see moose and other wildlife.
Flightseeing & Flyout Fishing
An hour-long plane ride around our area will treat you to some of the most breathtaking scenery our planet has to offer. Brown Bears in particular are in abundance, and are best viewed at established locations such as “Halo Bay” in Katmai National Park, and Lake Clark. There is an excellent chance of seeing bears from the air, as well as along the rivers that are just a short distance across Cook Inlet. A day trip of fly-out fishing is an adventure into remote, bush country Alaska with the comfort of civilization just a short ride away.
