Giving Back This Holiday Season

December 7, 2021

The holidays are full of cheer, presents, and families coming together to celebrate, but some families are not quite so fortunate.

Every year, many that serve our country spend holidays overseas and keeping our streets safe, and some never make it back home. For those that were able to return home but were injured in the line of duty, it can be a difficult time of the year for them. Terry Johnson, the owner of Salmon Catcher Lodge, is a man on a mission to give back to those men and women and to instill a bit of joy in their lives in partnering with the Kentucky Wounded Heroes program.

What is the Kentucky Wounded Heroes?

The mission of the Kentucky Wounded Heroes is “to honor and empower the emotional wellness of military service members, police, fire, and emergency medical responders through outdoor activities, programs, and services.” Through a number of different activities like hunting and fishing trips, the Kentucky Wounded Heroes program is bringing new hope to those involved. Though the name says Kentucky, the mission of this program reaches much further than just the state of Kentucky. States like Ohio, Florida, and Alaska also have businesses involved helping these wounded heroes get out and enjoy the great outdoors.

The Annual Alaska Fishing Trip

For the last nine years, the Kentucky Wounded Heroes have been embarking on an Alaska Fishing trip to catch some Kenai Salmon and get out into the peaceful wilderness. Those who participate are flown up to the Salmon Catcher Lodge where they were settled into their quarters and taken out on a grand Alaska Kenai fishing adventure. Terry Johnson has gone above and beyond to help these brave men and women heal and enjoy the good things in life.

How You Can Give While Enjoying Your Own Fishing Adventure

While the Salmon Catcher Lodge works very hard to get participants to their lodge, they are only able to fund so much on their own. They dream to help out even more, and that is where you can lend a hand. A portion of the money from your fishing trip with the Salmon Catcher Lodge goes directly to getting groups from the Kentucky Wounded Heroes their own fun excursions at the lodge. By treating family members or taking that Kenai salmon fishing trip you always dreamed of, you are helping one more wounded hero have a memorable escape to the Kenai wilderness. So this Christmas, give the gift of giving, call (907) 335-2001 to book your next wild Alaskan fishing trip.
