Last Call for Autumn Fishing Adventures
December 7, 2021You know it’s silver salmon and rainbow trout season when the temperature dips ever-so-slightly, the leaves begin to change color, and the days become shorter. King salmon season is sadly over, but reeling in a feisty coho is one of the most exciting challenges on the water. Salmon Catcher Lodge is not only steps from the famous Kenai River, but we also offer flightseeing, clam digging, whale watching, whitewater rafting, and so much more! There’s no better time than now to start planning a fall Kenai River fishing trip to the salmon capital of the world.
Feisty Silver Salmon
You’ll have dozens of opportunities to battle a feisty silver salmon during an autumn Kenai River fishing expedition. The world-class fishing guides at Salmon Catcher Lodge navigate on both the Kenai and Kasilof rivers. Coho salmon typically begin their journey back up the nearby rivers to spawn in early August. The average silver weighs approximately eight to 12 pounds, but we’ve caught many in the upper teens over the years. Silver salmon are prized fighters, making them an exhilarating catch every autumn. It’s also worth noting that halibut are still biting this time of the year in the Pacific Ocean near the charming city of Homer.
Beautiful Rainbow Trout
It’s important not to forget about arguably the best action of the year: autumn’s trout fly fishing season. Anglers from across the globe choose Salmon Catcher Lodge every September and October to reel in a giant trophy rainbow trout. As the water recedes, the trout run out of real estate in the clear rivers. Always be on high alert because we often record hauls of 50-100 fish per day. Dolly Varden, Arctic char, and steelhead also swarm in the Kenai. These four species, ranging from two to 20 pounds, are some of the most beautiful Salmonidae on the planet. These species are also catch-and-release only, so make sure to pack a trusty camera on your journey to the Last Frontier!
